Breathwork
Because breathing is an act we do without a second thought, we take it for granted.
Different breathing patterns activate our brain networks related to mood, attention, and body awareness. And through conscious breath, we become aware of our feelings in our body and can connect to ourselves because our mind, our breath, and our whole body are one.
Breathwork is a big part of Kundalini Yoga practice, and many yoga sets and meditations include specific breathing exercises.
Every conscious breath in and out is an opportunity to reset and return to the present moment and shift how we feel and perceive ourselves and the world.
Sound frequencies
We know about soothing lullabies and have experienced how music influences our mood. Everything is energy, frequency, and vibration. So when a sound is emitted at a specific frequency, this vibrates the surrounding atoms at a particular rate. Our entire body and world are made of atoms. So listening to or sitting in a room filled with these vibrational frequencies can also similarly vibrate your body.
Depending on which frequency tone you listen to, this can promote relaxation, helps in meditation, and heal your body, mind, and spirit.
Physical practice
A sequence of postures and movements in Kundalini Yoga is called asana. Together with the other aspects of a Kundalini Yoga practice, such as breathwork (pranayama), mantras, mudras and meditation, these asanas aim to create specific effects, such as shifting the balance between the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response) to the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation response). It also strengthens the immune system and the body's fitness.
Mantra
If we speak words and listen to our own voice, the impact on our subconscious is much more profound than listening to someone else talk or chant. You can use any language. And you don't need to understand the ancient words for it to work.
Sound engages the whole brain and affects the limbic system, a network of nerves associated with instinct and mood that control our basic emotions. Chanting mantra is the applied use of sound to impact consciousness, help with clarity of mind, and lead to a feeling of well-being.
Meditation
Meditation is more than just relieving stress or aiding with sleep better. It can be a portal to a deeper understanding of yourself, leading you to a new way of being in the world.
Breath is one way to take you into a meditative state. Mantras, sound frequencies, and scent also support theta waves originating from a relaxed attention that monitors our inner experiences. This is the significant difference between meditation and relaxing without any specific technique. Scientific research suggests that a daily meditative practice can calm down the sympathetic nervous system, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and negative thinking, reduce addictions, and keep up healthy brain function.
Kundalini energy
Kundalini Yoga practice helps you channel powerful energy and transform your life. Kundalini is the feminine form of the Sanskrit adjective meaning coiled. It refers to the creative energy, 'life force' that lies like a dormant, coiled serpent at the base of the spine. Kundalini yoga is practised to awaken and activate this energy. The Kundalini rises up the spine through channels of energy that reside along the spine allowing for the free flow of energy. As a result, your entire system, mind, body, and spirit go through a massive energetic upgrade, causing you to move through life differently and can lead to an expanded state of consciousness and feeling of bliss.
